[Morioka] Morioka Castle Site Park
Season From mid to late April
Description Located in the center of Morioka, Morioka Castle Site Park is just that, a park around the stone walls remaining from Morioka Castle. It is a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing as well.

[Morioka] The Rock-Splitting Cherry Tree
Season Mid-April
Description There is a large granite boulder 21 meters in circumference in the garden in front of the Morioka District Court. The 350 year old edohigan cherry tree that grew out of a crack in the boulder has been designated as a national natural monument.

[Morioka] Takamatsu Park
Season From late April to early May
Description Located in northwest Morioka, the 2km circumference of Takamatsu lake is lined with cherry trees. There is a walking path around the lake, and boats are available so you can enjoy the view from the center of the lake.

[Morioka] Yonai Water Purification Plant
Season Early May
Description The Yonai Water Purification Plant is on the outskirts of Morioka. The premises are opened to the public for free during the cherry blossom season. The 30 weeping cherry trees here are specially designated for preservation by the prefecture.

[Shizukuishi] The Lone Cherry Tree at Koiwai Farm
Season From late April to early May
Description This lone cherry tree stretches out its branches calmly against the background of the still snow-covered Mt. Iwate. This beautiful landscape has been featured in movies and TV dramas.

[Shizukuishi] Shizukuishi River Park
Season From late April to early May
Description Near JR Shizukuishi station, the Shizukuishi river embankment is lined with about 150 yoshino cherry trees. Portions are lit up at night so that you can enjoy the cherry blossoms at night as well.

[Hachimantai] Sakuramatsu Park
Season From late April to early May
Description Near Hachimantai’s famous “Fudo Waterfall” and “Sakuramasu Shrine,” there is a traditional Japanese rest house called the “Takinochaya.” During the national holiday week in May, there is a lively festival at the Fudo Waterfall.

[Shiwa] Shiroyama Park
Season From late April to early May
Description The Shiroyama area of Shiwa once prospered as a castle town around Kosuijijo Castle, and is now enjoyed as a public park. Shiroyama Sakura Festival is held when the 2,000 cherry trees there are in full bloom.

[Hanamaki] Hanamaki Onsen
Season From late April to early May
Description Guests at the Hanamaki Onsen Hotel can enjoy the 1,000 cherry trees there as they burst into bloom.

[Kitakami] Kitakami Tenshochi
Season Late April
Description Kitakami Tenshochi is counted as one of the three best places to view cherry blossoms in northeastern Japan. The city park along the banks of the Kitakami river is the most famous place in Iwate to view cherry blossoms. Stunningly beautiful cherry trees line the river over a 2km span.

[Oshu] Mizusawa Park
Season From mid to late April
Description There are about 500 cherry trees in the park that all bloom in unison. In addition to yoshino cherry trees and weeping cherry trees in the park, there are a number of old higan cherry trees that are said to be 350 years old and have been designated as a natural monument by the prefecture.

[Oshu] Oshu, National Route 397
Season Late April
Description Cherry trees line National Route 397 for 7km as it goes from Iwate toward Akita prefecture. While the cherry trees are in bloom, they are decorated with lights, making it a beautiful view at night.

[Hiraizumi] Saigyo Sakura no Mori
Season From mid to late April
Description Saigyo wrote the following poem in praise of the famous cherry blossoms of Mt. Tabashine in comparison to those of Mt. Yoshino in Nara. ‘How marvelous, the cherry blossom of Mount Tabashine. I had never heard of another place as beautiful as Yoshino.’

[Ichinoseki] Genbikei
Season Late April through early May
Description Genbikei is a beautiful scenic area designated as a national natural treasure. Many tourists visit the 2km stretch where 200 cherry trees line both sides of the gorge.

[Tono] Nabekura Park
Season From late April to early May
Description Nabekura Park is a beautiful city park just a five minute walk from Tono station. There are 1,000 cherry trees growing there that bloom around the holiday week in early May.

[Tono] Fukusenji Temple
Season From late April to early May
Description Fukusenji temple is a Shingon Buddhist temple that is host to the most famous wood eleven-faced Kannon statue in all of Japan. There is a beautiful line of cherry trees on the temple grounds that visitors can enjoy while they are in bloom.

[Miyako] Usugiyama
Season From late April to early May
Description Behind Jodogahama lies Usugiyama, which has an observation platform and shelter. Many tourists visiting Jodogahama stop here while the flowers are in bloom.
There are many varieties of cherry tree here, allowing for a long season during which something is in bloom.

[Kamaishi] The Sakura at Hongo, Tonichou
Season From mid to late April
Description In 1934, 2800 cherry trees were planted in the Tonichou district. During the Amaterasumioya festival, held once every three years, a stately parade is held under the line of cherry trees.

[Kuji] Tatsumiyama Park
Season Early May
Description Tatsumiyama Park is on a low hill in Kuji. There is more to see here than just cherry trees. With a great view of the city and Kuji Bay, the park provides a place for residents to relax.

[Ninohe] Tendaiji Temple
Season From late April to early May
Description The hydrangeas along the path to the temple are well known, but in the spring visitors to the temple grounds can enjoy stunning weeping cherry trees as well.
*The Main Temple and Nioumon Gate are currently covered due to renovations, but you may enter the temple grounds.
